Oregon State University leadership approved the implementation of a Greek Program Fee starting in Spring Term 2025. The primary purpose of implementing a fraternity/sorority program fee is to provide dedicated funding for comprehensive support, programming, and resources specifically tailored to the Greek community. The fee structure allows for more equitable distribution of costs among members and ensures sustainable funding for essential services and initiatives.
Frequently Asked Questions
The Greek Program Fee is a $20 per term fee (Fall, Winter, Spring) that will be charged to all active fraternity and sorority members at Oregon State University. The fee supports leadership development, educational and community programming, marketing initiatives, and administrative support that enhances the student experience for all members of the Greek community. The fee was implemented by OSU to support the continued growth of the fraternity and sorority community at Oregon State.
The Greek Program Fee has been approved by OSU Senior Administration to provide sustainable, long-term support for the fraternity and sorority experience at Oregon State, ensuring its continued growth and success. The goal is to enhance the overall fraternity and sorority experience for students and ensure that these activities are effectively supported.
Previously, the Center of Fraternity and Sorority Life (CFSL) depended on council contributions for community events, leadership programs, and marketing initiatives. By the CFSL directly managing these funds, the university will provide professional oversight, ensuring more accountable and transparent financial management. The CFSL will track fund usage and report quarterly to the Greek Program Fee Advisory Board.
Funds from the Greek Program Fee will be used to enhance leadership development, educational and community programming, marketing initiatives, and administrative support in the CFSL. By providing dedicated funding, the CFSL can create innovative opportunities that support student development, strengthen members' relationships, and develop a more dynamic fraternity and sorority experience. The fee will support community member resources, workshops, events, and strategic programming designed to showcase the positive impact of Fraternity & Sorority Life on campus and offer a top-notch Greek experience for members.
The Greek Program Fee is $20 and will be assessed each term the student is listed an active member of their chapter on the roster updated regularly via Ideal Logic. New members will not be charged during the term they join but will be charged every subsequent term. Returning members will be billed each term. The fee will be added to student’s OSU billing account ('myBill') at the same time other costs and fees are billed.
Refunds are not given if a student changes membership status (inactive or disaffiliated) during the term after the fee is assessed.
The fee will be charged to student accounts on the last day of week 1 of Fall, Winter, and Spring Term. Starting in Spring Term 2025, it will be added to students' university bills and collected with regular tuition and fees.
In keeping with the university's commitment to expand access to programs and services for students with financial need and Pell Grant recipients, a limited number of Greek Program Fee waivers will be available each term. Students must apply for the waiver each term they want their Greek Program Fee waived. Approved students will not see this fee on their myBill.
We understand that there are situations where members are facing financial hardship or have other specific extenuating circumstances or needs that may impact their ability to pay the fee. In these instances, students are strongly encouraged to apply for the Greek Program Fee waiver by the following deadlines:
- Fall Term: Friday before classes begin for Fall Term
- Winter Term: Friday of Fall Term Finals Week
- Spring Term: Friday of Witner Term Finals Week
New members often have additional dues/fees they are charged by their chapter during their first term of membership, therefore new members will not be charged the Greek Program Fee until their second term as active members of their chapter. Typically this is the term after the new member has been initiated.
If you do not pay the fee by the payment deadline, it will be handled the same way as other university charges. You may face late fees or holds on your account that could affect your ability to register for classes or access certain university services. Be sure to pay the fee by the university’s payment deadline to avoid any issues.
If a student believes they have been charged the fee in error, please contact the Center for Fraternity & Sorority Life (CFSL) at [email protected] with the information below. Once the CFSL confirm with the chapter that the individual was not a member when the fee was assessed, the charge will be removed from the student's bill.
Please include in email: Legal Name, OSU ID Number, Organization, Phone number, & Reason you believe you were charged in error in the body of your email.
The Greek Program Fee is mandatory for all active fraternity and sorority members at OSU. It is a required fee to ensure the continued growth and success of fraternity & sorority life programs. Students experiencing financial hardship may apply for a waiver each term they have financial need (see FAQ: "What about students with financial need?").
While the current fee is set at $20 per term, it may be subject to review and adjustment in the future based on the needs of the fraternity & sorority life community. Any changes to the fee structure will be reviewed by the Greek Program Fee Advisory Board and communicated to the community in advance.
Since university staff are accountable for financial decisions that impact all students, including setting fees, the Center for Fraternity & Sorority Life (CFSL) staff will provide oversight for decisions regarding the fee. The Greek Program Fee Advisory Board's role will be to ensure that the Greek community's perspective is heard and factor into the decision-making process, and will provide this feedback to the CFSL staff and OSU senior administrators. The Advisory Board is made up of the five governing council presidents and two alumni who have remained active supporters of the OSU fraternity and sorority community.
Any member that is currently paying dues to their chapter should also be listed on the chapter’s Ideal Logic roster, which will indicate that they will be assessed the fee.
